According to a new memo from Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the Biden administration is discontinuing major worksite immigration raids and instead focuses on employers who abuse illegal employees.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is another significant divergence from the Trump administration’s immigration policies. Instead of focusing on employees, Mayorkas’ letter focuses on “exploitative employers.”<\/span><\/p>\n

He gave a statement stating, “We will not tolerate unscrupulous employers who exploit unauthorized workers, conduct illegal activities, or impose unsafe working conditions. Employers engaged in illegal acts compel the focus of our enforcement resources.”\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The letter goes on to say that future practices and regulations should impose “more severe consequences” on employers in order to diminish the demand for illegal labor, motivate employees to report breaches, and increase inter-agency collaboration.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Other Side of Protecting Undocumented Workers<\/b><\/h2>\n

While the proposal brings good news for workers abused by employers, if the deportation protection plan for undocumented individuals is approved, many undocumented families may lose their employment, according to local immigration lawyers.<\/span><\/p>\n

These suggestions may have a detrimental influence on the local economy since there may be fewer hiring and job losses. So, while the first goal is to safeguard the working conditions of illegal immigrants, but the second goal is to preserve the labor market.<\/span><\/p>\n

This might lead to further limitations being imposed on local companies when employing new employees. At the same time, the proposal’s good side, which is that it would safeguard workers who have been subjected to labor violations, cannot be denied.<\/span><\/p>\n
