Advocates believe that the US government will not be able to fully protect workers at companies like those raided frequently until its immigration policies allow that immigrant and even undocumented workers to speak up without fear of retaliation. In contrast to Trump’s immigration views, the Biden administration is stopping significant worksite immigration raids, according to a new memo from Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.<\/span><\/p>\n

An End to Immigration Enforcement Raids<\/b><\/h2>\n

ICE performed many high-profile workplace raids involving mass arrests of unauthorized immigrants during the previous US administration. More than a dozen raids on meatpacking plants were carried out. However, things are changing.<\/span><\/p>\n

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a directive to Immigration and Customs Enforcement stating that DHS will target organizations that hire unauthorized workers on a regular basis.<\/span><\/p>\n

ICE was ordered by DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to halt such raids and devise plans to remedy companies’ harsh treatment of undocumented workers. He also directed ICE to collaborate with US Citizenship and Immigration Services as well as US Customs and Border Protection on the new strategy’s implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n
